this strange and mournful day
this last thursday was the second anniversary of my mom's death.
i miss her a lot.
i always will.
it's funny to me that she passed away during the persied meteor shower because that was always something that both of us greatly enjoyed watching. now every time i see a shooting star i will think of her.
the other night i was listening to coast to coast and this guy called in to talk about some weird things that had happened to him right before his mother had died. the coolest thing though about this wasn't what the guy had to say... but the bumper music that the host george noory played into their next commercial break. in light of what the guy had been talking about, and what i have been thinking about a little bit over the last week, here are the lyrics...
Mother And Child Reunion
No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine
I can’t for the life of me
Remember a sadder day
I know they say let it be
But it just don’t work out that way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again
No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine
I just can’t believe it’s so
Though it seems strange to say
I never been laid so low
In such a mysterious way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again
But I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away
Oh the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away
Oh the mother and child reunion
Is only a moment away

Hey O'Brien,
I think it's a beautiful thing--the way you appreciate so much about your mom after her death. It does remind me of A Severe Mercy in some ways. While you appreciate individual instances, such as meteor showers, you also appreciate her in her entirety, and she seems to have become a part of you more than before. This is at least how it appears, and I think you would agree and probably expound.
Matt
